Vineyard Background - Vineyard Statements
OUR PRIORITIES
A. WORSHIP 

1.  We desire to worship God with our whole being. We want Jesus at the centre as our Lord. We hunger for the fullness of the Spirit... His glory resting upon us! 182
 

2.  We desire Spirit-enabled worship in a style that is intimate, dynamic, culture current, and life changing.183

B. THE WORD 

1.  We want to hear the Word of God taught in a practical, inspiring way, in conjunction with His current prophetic word. 184
 

2. We aim to hear and obey God's Word to us... to be "doers of the Word" who are being transformed into the likeness of Christ. 185

C.  FELLOWSHIP  

1. We are the family of God, one Body in Jesus Christ, joined together as brothers and sisters forever. 186
 

2. We seek to develop real, intimate, enabling friendships together, built on covenant love, mutual responsibility and faithfulness.187

D.  MINISTRY 

1.  We believe that all Christians are called to serve Christ in the power of His Spirit, in ways that build up the local church.188
 

2.  We are called to do the ministry of Christ in the world today, for example, to...
     a. preach the Gospel of the Kingdom.

     b. persuade people to repent and believe in Jesus. 190
     c. heal the sick. 191
     d. care for the poor and those in need. 192
     e. counsel those in need of God's wisdom. 193
     f. teach believers to follow Christ. 194 
     g. give our resources to the work of Christ. 195

E.  TRAINING

1.  We believe that all Christians should be trained to "do the works of Christ."197
 

2.  We are committed to the "show and tell" model of "on the job" training, in which trainees are introduced to doing ministry functions with trainers and then are taught during and after the training experience.198
 

3. We aim to provide training for all aspects of responsible Christian life and ministry.199

F.  SENDING

1. We aim to renew, refresh, and enable existing churches by sending trained personnel out on short-term ministry trips.200
 

2. We aim to build the Church of Jesus Christ by sending trained personnel to plant churches around the world. 201

In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. Corinthians 14:26: What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church.

Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

187  Hebrews 3:12-14: See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first. Philippians 2:3-5: Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus; Ephesians 4:11-16: It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Amen. 1 Corinthians 12:4-7: There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. Acts 1:8: But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

200  Matthew 10:5-15: These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: "Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. As you go, preach this message: 'The kingdom of heaven is near.' Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. Do not take along any gold or silver or copper in your belts; take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or a staff; for the worker is worth his keep. "Whatever town or village you enter, search for some worthy person there and stay at his house until you leave. As you enter the home, give it your greeting. If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town. I tell you the truth, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town. Luke 9:1-6: When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He told them: "Take nothing for the journey--no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra tunic. Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that town. If people do not welcome you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave their town, as a testimony against them." So they set out and went from village to village, preaching the gospel and healing people everywhere. Luke 10:1: After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.

201  Revelation 5:9-10: And they sang a new song: "You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth." Romans 15:20: It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else's foundation.
